Abstract The baru (Dipteryx alata Vogel), is fruit tree displaying economic, environmental, industrial and food importance. The objective of this study was to adapt to the tetrazolium test methodology to baru seeds and evaluate the physiological quality of seeds stored for 12 months at 10 and 20 ºC, using X-ray images as a toll for detection damage throughout the storage period while also carrying out germination, emergence and electrical conductivity tests. Baru seeds remained viable for 12 months of storage, albeit with a small decrease in vigor after nine months. The applied tetrazolium test methodology was efficient in determining internal seed damage. The pre-soak time for the tetrazolium test and solution concentration was 24 hours and 0.05%. No changes in seed morphology and radiographic images were observed during the storage periods, regardless of the assessed temperature. The X-ray test enabled a precise visualization of internal baru seed structures.

Resumo As espécies Campomanesia adamantium e C. pubescens apresentam uma grande variabilidade morfológica, com a existência de morfotipos e, a indicação de um possível processo de hibridação ocorrendo entre elas. Assim o objetivo deste estudo foi caracterizar a espécie Campomanesia adamantium e os morfotipos da espécie Campomanesia pubescens através de análises palinológicas e com uso de marcadores moleculares para auxiliar na descrição taxonômica das espécies. O material vegetal foi coletado no campo experimental da Universidade Federal de Jataí, na floração de 2014 e as análises realizadas no Laboratório Morfologia e Taxonomia Vegetal e no Laboratório de Genética e Melhoramento de Plantas da mesma instituição. As análises de microscopia eletrônica de varredura foram realizadas na Universidade Federal de Lavras. Foram encontradas informações importantes que reforçam a possibilidade de cruzamento entre C. adamantium e C. pubescens, gerando morfotipos intermediários, indicando um possível processo de hibridação. Pode-se concluir que C. adamantium está mais distante do morfotipo 2 de C. pubescens e os morfotipos 1 e 3 são intermediários entre eles, sendo possivelmente híbridos.

Abstract The species Campomanesia adamantium and C. pubescens present a great morphological variability, with the existence of morphotypes and the indication of a possible hybridization process occurring between them. Thus, the aim of this study was to characterize the Campomanesia adamantium species and morphotypes of species Campomanesia pubescens through palynological reviews and with the use of molecular markers to assist the taxonomic description of the species. The plant material was collected in the experimental field of Federal University of Jataí, in bloom of 2014, and analyzes were performed in the Morphology Laboratory of Plant Taxonomy and in the Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding belonging to the same institution. Analysis of scanning electron microscopy was performed at the Federal University of Lavras. Important information was found that reinforce the possibility of cross between Campomanesia adamantium and Campomanesia pubescens, generating morphotypes intermediaries, indicating a possible hybridisation process. It can be concluded that Campomanesia adamantium is farthest from the morphotype 2 from Campomanesia pubescens, and morphotypes 1 and 3 are intermediate between them, possibly being hybrids.

RESUMO A qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes é influenciada pelo ambiente de produção e de armazenamento. Neste trabalho objetivou-se avaliar os efeitos do herbicida flumioxazin aplicado como dessecante em pré-colheita e do armazenamento sobre a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de feijão azuki. Foi adotado o delineamento experimental em blocos ao acaso, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas. Nas parcelas foram alocadas as cinco doses do herbicida flumioxazin (20, 25, 30, 35 e 40 g i.a·ha-1) e nas subparcelas as duas épocas de avaliação (colheita e 6 meses após a colheita), com quatro repetições. Foram testados dois tratamentos sem aplicação do herbicida para cada época de avaliação. Nas doses entre 25 a 35 g·ha-1 de flumioxazin observou-se a manutenção da qualidade fisiológica das sementes. Em doses crescentes reduziu-se a condutividade elétrica das sementes. O aumento das doses reduziu a porcentagem de plântulas normais na primeira contagem da germinação, após seis meses de armazenamento, e causou perda no vigor das plântulas. O armazenamento de feijão azuki durante seis meses reduziu a qualidade fisiológica, causando perdas na germinação e vigor das sementes. O armazenamento e o aumento das doses do dessecante flumioxazin reduziram a incidência dos patógenos Rhizopus, Cladosporium e Fusarium nas sementes. O aumento das doses reduziu a incidência de Aspergillus. A incidência de Penicillium não foi afetada pelos tratamentos.

ABSTRACT Production and storage environments influence the physiological and sanitary quality of seeds. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the herbicide flumioxazin applied as a preharvest desiccant and storage on the physiological and sanitary quality of adzuki bean seeds. A randomized block design was used in a split-plot scheme, with four replications. Plots consisted of five doses of the herbicide flumioxazin (20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 g ai·ha-1) and subplots consisted of two evaluation times (harvest and six months after harvest). Two controls, with no herbicide application, were tested for each evaluation time. The physiological seed quality was maintained with doses from 25 to 35 g·ha-1 of flumioxazin. Increasing herbicide doses reduced the electrical conductivity of seeds. The increased doses also reduced the percentage of normal seedlings in the first germination count after six months of storage and caused seedling vigor loss. The storage of adzuki bean for six months reduced its physiological quality, leading to losses in germination and seed vigor. Storage and increasing doses of the desiccant flumioxazin reduced the incidence of the pathogens Rhizopus, Cladosporium, and Fusarium in the seeds. The increased doses of this herbicide reduced Aspergillus incidence. Penicillium incidence was not affected by treatments.

ABSTRACT. Environment and storage time influence stored seed quality, especially for oilseeds such as castor beans because they have a high lipid content and are more prone to deterioration. This study evaluated the physiological quality of seeds from three castor bean genotypes stored at 10 and 20°C for 300 days. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 4 replications, in a 2 x 6 (2 temperatures x 6 storage periods) split-plot design. The seeds were placed in low-density polypropylene bags and stored in climatic chambers at 10 and 20°C, in which the temperature and relative humidity were registered. Physiological quality (germination, germination rate index, emergence, rate of emergence, electrical conductivity and accelerated aging) were evaluated at baseline and after 60, 120, 180, 240, and 300 days of storage. Castor seeds of genotype EVF 106 showed better physiological quality when stored at 10°C. Castor seeds of genotype EVF 701 could be stored at 10 and 20°C for 300 days. Castor seeds of genotype EVF 712 presented reduced physiological quality during their 300 days in storage, regardless of temperature.

Resumo: Sementes de mamona são a matéria-prima para extração de óleo utilizado para diversos fins farmacêuticos e industriais. Para assegurar a produção de sementes com qualidade, é necessário aplicar apropriadamente tecnologias de pós-colheita, como o beneficiamento. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de dois genótipos de mamona, classificadas por massa específica e tamanho. Sementes de mamona dos genótipos EVF102 e EVF103 foram colhidas mecanicamente e classificadas por meio de peneiras de crivos cilíndricos e mesa densimétrica, na Unidade de Beneficiamento das Sementes Goiás Ltda. As avaliações da qualidade fisiológica foram conduzidas no Laboratório de Sementes do Instituto Federal Goiano, em um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado, com 4 repetições, em esquema fatorial 2 x 2 x 5 (2 genótipos x 2 tamanhos x 5 massas específicas). Foram avaliados os parâmetros massa de mil sementes, teste de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação, teste de emergência, índice de velocidade de emergência, condutividade elétrica e envelhecimento acelerado. Sementes do genótipo EVF102 de tamanho 8 mm, conforme classificadas pela mesa densimétrica, apresentaram maior qualidade fisiológica considerando-se a germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação e emergência. Sementes do genótipo EVF103 separadas por tamanho não apresentaram diferença na qualidade fisiológica.

Abstract: Castor bean seeds are the raw material used for extracting oil destined to pharmaceutical and industrial ends. The appropriate application of post-harvest technologies, such as processing, is required to ensure the production of top quality seeds. Thus, this study aimed at assessing the physiological quality of seeds from two castor bean genotypes, classified according to their specific mass and size. Castor seeds of the genotypes EVF102 and EVF103 were mechanically harvested and then classified with the aid of cylindrical sieves and a densimetric table. This procedure was conducted at the processing unit of the company Sementes Goiás LTDA [Goiás Seeds Co.]. Evaluations of seed physiological quality were carried out in the Seed Laboratory of Instituto Federal Goiano, following a completely randomized design. The testing was conducted in four replicates, in a 2 x 2 x 5 factorial scheme (two genotypes x two sizes x five specific masses). The following parameters were appraised: (a) mass of one thousand seeds; (b) germination; (c) germination speed index; (d) emergence test; (e) emergence speed index; (f) electrical conductivity; and (g) accelerated aging. Genotype EVF102 seeds sized 8 mm, as classified by the densimetric table, showed the highest physiological quality, considering the germination, germination speed index, and emergence. Seeds of the genotype EVF103, sorted by size, exhibited no difference in physiological quality.

RESUMO. Estudos referentes à avaliação da morfologia interna e da qualidade de sementes de espécies nativas são de fundamental importância para o sucesso dos programas de conservação. Objetivou-se com este estudo verificar a eficiência do teste com raios X na avaliação da viabilidade de aquênios de caju-de-árvore-do-cerrado (Anacardium othonianum Rizz.) submetidos à secagem. Para tal, aquênios de A. othonianum Rizz foram coletados com 12% (b.u.) e submetidos à secagem em sílica gel até a obtenção dos teores de água de 10, 8, 6 e 4% (b.u.). Os frutos foram avaliados quanto à morfologia interna e qualidade física pelo teste de raios X, e o vigor das sementes pelos testes de germinação, condutividade elétrica e emergência de plântulas. Para a obtenção das imagens radiográficas, aquênios com diferentes teores de água foram expostos à radiação em um aparelho de raios X digital “Faxitron HP”, MX-20 à intensidade de 18 kV por 11 segundos, e posteriormente foram submetidos ao teste de emergência. As imagens radiográficas foram analisadas e os aquênios classificados de acordo com a morfologia interna em três categorias: Cheios, mal formados e vazios. O delineamento estatístico utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado em esquema fatorial (5 x 3). A secagem dos frutos até 4% (b.u.) não danificou ou alterou as estruturas internas dos aquênios. O teste de raios X é eficiente na avaliação da morfologia interna e na detecção da qualidade de aquênios de A. othonianum Rizz, possibilitando a separação de aquênios vazios ou com anormalidades embrionárias e permite a formação de lotes de sementes mais vigorosas, reduzindo os custos tanto de armazenamento quanto os programas de produção de mudas desta espécie nativa.

ABSTRACT. Studies evaluating the internal morphology and seed quality of native species are essential for successful conservation programs. Our aim was to verify the efficiency of X-ray imagery in evaluating cashew-tree-of-the-cerrado (Anacardium othonianum Rizz.) achene viability after desiccation. The achenes were collected at 12% water content (w.b.) and dried in silica gel until they reached 10, 8, 6, and 4% (w.b.). The fruit morphology and the quality of the seeds were evaluated by X-ray test together with vigor, electrical conductivity and emergence tests. Achenes with different water contents were exposed to an X-ray machine at 18 kV for 11 s and were thereafter submitted to emergence tests. The images were analyzed, and the achenes were classified based on internal morphology as completely full, malformed, or empty. These results were compared to those from the emergence tests. The statistical design was a complete randomized factorial (5 x 3). Desiccation to 4% (w.b.) did not damage or modify the internal structures. X-ray was efficient in evaluating the internal morphology and detecting achene quality, making it possible to remove empty and abnormal fruit and form vigorous seed lots, reducing the cost of storage and bedding plant production for this native species.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se nesta pesquisa avaliar o efeito de diferentes herbicidas aplicados como dessecantes em pré-colheita sobre a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de feijão azuki (Vigna angularis Willd.) e armazenadas. Foi adotado o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. Testaram-se nas parcelas cinco princípios ativos de herbicidas: paraquat (400 g i.a ha-1), glufosinato de amônio (400 g i.a ha-1), glyphosate (720 g e.a ha-1), flumioxazin (30 g i.a ha-1) e uma testemunha sem aplicação de herbicida; e nas subparcelas as duas épocas de armazenamento das sementes (colheita e 6 meses após a colheita). A aplicação dos dessecantes ocorreu na maturidade fisiológica do feijoeiro. Foi avaliado a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária das sementes através de teste de vigor e sanidade de sementes. O uso do herbicida glyphosate promoveu maior incidência de plântulas anormais e redução do tamanho e massa das plântulas. Os herbicidas paraquat e flumioxazin mantiveram a qualidade fisiológica das sementes e promoveram menor infestação de patógenos aos seis meses após a colheita. O armazenamento afetou a qualidade fisiológica de sementes de feijão azuki.

ABSTRACT: The objective of this research was to evaluate the effects of using different herbicides as desiccants in pre-harvest and the effects of storage on the physiological and sanitary quality of azuki bean seeds (Vigna angularis Willd). The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design in a split plot scheme, with four replications. Four herbicides were tested: paraquat (400 g a.i. ha-1), glufosinate ammonium (400 g a.i. ha-1), glyphosate (720 g a.i. ha-1), flumioxazin (30 g a.i. ha-1) and a control without herbicide application. In the subplots seed quality was tested in two evaluation periods: at harvest and six months after harvest. Desiccant was applied when the azuki beans were physiologically mature. We assessed the physiological and sanitary quality of the seeds using a vigour and seed health test. The use of glyphosate resulted in a higher incidence of abnormal seedlings and reduced size and weight of the seedlings. With paraquat and flumioxazin the physiological quality was maintained and there was reduced pathogen infestation in the seeds six months after harvest. Storage affected the physiological quality of the azuki bean seeds.

RESUMO Sorghum arundinaceum (Desv.) Stapf é uma planta daninha pertencente à família Poaceae e encontra-se disseminada em todo o território brasileiro. Apesar da ocorrência frequente, infestando áreas cultivadas, são poucas as pesquisas concernentes à biologia e à fisiologia desta espécie. Objetivou-se com esta pesquisa avaliar o crescimento, a partição de fotoassimilados e as características fisiológicas da planta daninha Sorghum arundinaceum, em casa de vegetação. As plantas foram coletadas em intervalos regulares de sete dias, a partir de 22 e até 113 dias após o transplantio (DAT). Em cada coleta, determinaram-se altura de plantas, volume de raiz, área foliar e massa seca e, posteriormente, aplicou-se a análise de crescimento, sendo calculada a partição de massa seca entre os órgãos, o acúmulo de massa seca, a área foliar específica, a taxa de crescimento relativo e a razão de peso foliar. Aos 36, 78 e 113 DAT foram avaliadas as taxas fotossintética e transpiratória, a condutância estomática, a relação entre a concentração interna e externa de CO2 e a fluorescência da clorofila a. O Sorghum arundinaceum apresentou a altura de 1,91 metros, com crescimento inicial lento e alocou grande parte da biomassa nas raízes. A taxa fotossintética e o rendimento quântico máximo do FS II são semelhantes, durante todo o ciclo de crescimento. Na maturação, o Sorghum arundinaceum apresenta maiores valores de taxa transpiratória, condutância estomática e coeficiente de dissipação não fotoquímico (NPQ).

ABSTRACT Sorghum arundinaceum (Desv.) Stapf is a weed that belongs to the Poaceae family and is widespread throughout Brazil. Despite the frequent occurrence, infesting cultivated areas, there is little research concerning the biology and physiology of this species. The objective of this research was to evaluate the growth, carbon partitioning and physiological characteristics of the weed Sorghum arundinaceum in greenhouse. Plants were collected at regular intervals of seven days, from 22 to 113 days after transplanting (DAT). In each sample, we determined plant height, root volume, leaf area and dry matter, and subsequently we perfomed the growth analysis, we have determined the dry matter partitioning among organs, the accumulation of dry matter, the specific leaf area, the relative growth rate and leaf weight ratio. At 36, 78 and 113 DAT, the photosynthetic and transpiration rates, stomatal conductance, CO2 concentration and chlorophyll fluorescence were evaluated. The Sorghum arundinaceum reached 1.91 in height, with slow initial growth and allocated much of the biomass in the roots. The photosynthetic rate and the maximum quantum yield of FSII are similar throughout the growth cycle. At maturity the Sorghum arundinaceum presents higher values of transpiration rate, stomatal conductance and non-photochemical quenching coefficient (NPQ).

O trabalho teve como objetivo investigar a tolerância a dessecação em sementes de Rhamnidium elaeocarpum Reissek por meio de alterações fisiológicas e bioquímicas. Os frutos foram coletados no município de Jaupaci, Estado de Goiás, quando as sementes apresentavam teor de água de 37% base úmida (b.u.), sendo em seguida mantidas em estufa de secagem com circulação de ar à temperatura de 35ºC até alcançarem os teores de água de 20 e 12% (b.u.). Foram avaliados os seguintes parâmetros: germinação; índice de velocidade de germinação; emergência; índice de velocidade de emergência; condutividade elétrica; taxa respiratória; perfil eletroforético das isoenzimas: catalase, peroxidase e esterase; atividade enzimática de endo-β-mananase e α-amilase e análise eletroforética de proteínas resistentes ao calor. Maior velocidade de germinação e taxa respiratória foi obtida para sementes com teor de água de 12% b.u. A atividade das isoformas de catalase foi mais pronunciada em sementes com maior grau de desidratação em relação à peroxidase que diminuiu sua atividade. As sementes apresentaram proteínas de baixo peso molecular resistentes ao calor, variando de 48,7 a 13,2 kDa. A aquisição de tolerância à secagem em sementes de R. elaeocarpum Reissek é mais associada à enzima catalase do que às enzimas esterase e peroxidase.

This study aimed to investigate the desiccation tolerance of Rhamnidium elaeocarpum Reissek seeds through physiological and biochemical alterations. Fruit were collected from the municipality of Jaupaci, Goias State, Brazil, when the water content of their seeds had a 37% wet basis (w.b.) and the seeds were subsequently kept in a drying oven with air circulation at a temperature of 35ºC until a water content was reached of 20 to 12% (w.b.). The following parameters were evaluated: germination, germination speed index, emergence, emergence speed index, electrical conductivity and respiration rate. Furthermore, the electrophoretic profile of the isoenzymes: catalase, peroxidase and esterase, the enzymatic activities of endo-β-mannanase and α-amylase and the electrophoretic analysis of heat-resistant proteins were performed. A higher germination speed and respiratory rate was obtained for seeds with a water content of 12% w.b., and the activity of catalase isoforms was more pronounced in seeds with a higher degree of dehydration, which was in contrast to peroxidase, showed decreased activity. The seeds contained heat-resistant proteins of low molecular weight that ranged from 48.7 to 13.2 kDa. We found that the acquisition of drying tolerance in R. Elaeocarpum Reissek seeds is associated more with catalase than with esterase and peroxidase.

O trabalho foi realizado no Laboratório de Sementes do Instituto Federal Goiano Câmpus de Rio Verde, Estado de Goiás, visando acelerar e homogeneizar a germinação de sementes de macaúba. Para isso foi avaliado o efeito da escarificação física (remoção do tegumento na região do hilo), térmica (embebição das sementes em água aquecida a aproximadamente 100ºC, por dois e quatro minutos) e química (ácido sulfúrico 98%, por dois e quatro minutos), comparadas ao controle (ausência de escarificação), bem como o efeito da forma de embebição (rápida e lenta) e diferentes concentrações do ácido giberélico (0, 100 e 200 mg L-1) na porcentagem e velocidade de germinação. A mortalidade das sementes escarificadas e mantidas em germinador ocorrem em baixas porcentagens, porém em casa de vegetação esse número foi acima de 50% quando se utilizou a escarificação térmica em água quente e em ácido sulfúrico. A escarificação física, removendo o tegumento das sementes na região do hilo, favoreceu a germinação das sementes e a emergência das plântulas, sendo este o tipo de escarificação mais indicado para a superação da dormência nessa espécie. Não se obteve acréscimo na germinação das sementes com o ácido giberélico, independente da forma de aplicação nas sementes.

This study was performed to improve the speed of and standardize the process for the germination of macaw palm seeds. The effect of mechanical scarification (removal of the tegument in the hilum region), thermal scarification (imbibition of seeds in water at approximately 100ºC for two or four minutes) and chemical scarification (98% sulfuric acid treatment for two or four minutes) were compared to a control (no scarification) in both a germination chamber and a greenhouse, representing trials one and two, respectively. The effect of imbibition speed (fast or slow) and different concentrations of gibberellic acid (0, 100 or 200 mg L-1) on the germination percentage and index of germination velocity were evaluated during a third trial. Mechanical scarification to remove the seed tegument in the hilum region enhanced the germination of the seeds in the germination chamber and seedling emergence in the greenhouse, and this type of scarification should be recommended for breaking dormancy in this species. Not obtained increase in seed germination with gibberellic acid, regardless of the application form in the seeds.

O sucesso no estabelecimento e produção de pastagens depende de uma boa qualidade da semente, sendo que a semente representa apenas cerca de 10% do custo total de formação da pastagem. Diante deste fato o objetivo do presente trabalho foi comparar diferentes tempos (0; 4; 8 e 12 meses) de armazenamento em (B.O.D regulada a 10ºC); (Geladeira 00ºC ± 5°C) e Laboratório a 26ºC ± 3 ºC não há necessidade de parênteses para separar os tratamentos em sementes de Arachis pintoi cv. Amarillo. As sementes utilizadas foram tratadas com fungicida Vitavax-Thiram® [Ingrediente Ativo (carboxina + tiram): 200 + 200g/L], na dosagem de 300mL de fungicida diluídos em 500mL de água para 100kg de sementes. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos inteiramente casualizado (DBC), dispostos em um esquema fatorial 4x3 sendo quatro tempos de armazenamento (0, 4, 8 e 12 meses), três ambientes (Laboratório, Geladeira e incubadora B.O.D) com quatro repetições. Os resultados foram submetidos à análise de variância, regressão e as médias comparadas pelo teste de Tukey e F, a 5% de probabilidade. As sementes armazenadas em baixas temperaturas, mesmo no maior tempo de armazenamento estudado, mantêm sua qualidade fisiológica, indicando que baixas temperaturas exercem efeito positivo na conservação das sementes.

The successful establishment and production of pasture depends on a good seed quality, and the seed represents only about 10% of the total cost of the pasture formation. Considering this fact, the aim of the present study was to compare different times (0; 4; 8 and 12 months) of storage (BOD set at 10ºC), (Refrigerator 00ºC ± 5°C) and (Lab at 26ºC ± 3ºC) in seeds of Arachis pintoi cv. Amarillo. The seeds used were treated with the fungicide Vitavax-Thiram ® [Active Ingredient (carboxin + thiram): 200 + 200g / L] at a dosage of 300ml of fungicide diluted in 500mL of water to 100kg of seeds. The experimental design was in completely randomized blocks (DBC), arranged in a 4x3 factorial scheme with four storage times (0; 4; 8 and 12 months), three environments (Lab, Refrigerator and B.O.D.) with four repetitions. The results were submitted to analysis of variance, the regression and the means were compared by the Tukey test and F, at 5% probability. The seeds stored at low temperatures, even in the highest storage time studied, maintain their physiological quality, indicating that low temperatures have a positive effect on seed conservation.

Estudos sobre a conservação e exploração de espécies nativas do Cerrado são fundamentais para tecnologias que visem à exploração racional destes produtos. Objetivou-se, neste trabalho, determinar as isotermas de dessorção de sementes de caju-de-árvore-do-cerrado, para diversas condições de temperatura e atividades de água, bem como ajustar diferentes modelos matemáticos aos dados experimentais, selecionando aquele que melhor representa o fenômeno. A higroscopicidade foi determinada pelo método estático-gravimétrico, para temperaturas de 25ºC, 30ºC, 35ºC e 40ºC e atividades de água entre 0,12 e 0,89 (decimal). Observou-se que o teor de água de equilíbrio decresceu com o aumento da temperatura, para uma mesma atividade de água, à semelhança dos produtos higroscópicos. O modelo de Chung-Pfost obteve o maior coeficiente de determinação e menores valores de erro médio relativo, erro médio estimado e Qui-quadrado, sendo selecionado para predição do equilíbrio higroscópico de sementes de caju-de-árvore-do-cerrado. O calor isostérico aumentou com a diminuição do teor de água, ou seja, aumentou a energia necessária para a remoção de água, com valores variando de 4.586,35 kJ kg-1 a 2.572,7 kJ kg-1, na faixa de teor de água de 1,76-6,56 (% b.s.).

Studies on conservation and exploitation of the Brazilian Savannah native species are essential to technologies that lead to the rational exploitation of these products. This study aimed at determining the desorption isotherms of Anacardium othonianum seeds for different temperature and water activity conditions, as well as adjusting different mathematical models to the experimental data, by selecting the one that best represents the phenomenon. The hygroscopicity was determined with the aid of the gravity static method, for temperatures of 25ºC, 30ºC, 35ºC and 40ºC and water activity between 0.12 and 0.89 (decimal). It was observed that the equilibrium moisture content decreased while the temperature increased, for the same water activity, similarly to what happens with hygroscopic products. The Chung-Pfost model reached the highest determination coefficient and the lowest values for relative average error, estimated medium error and chi-square test, being the one selected to predict the hygroscopic equilibrium of Anacardium othonianum seeds. The isosteric heat increased, while the moisture content decreased, i.e., it increased the energy required to remove water, varying from 4,586.35 kJ kg-1 to 2,572.7 kJ kg-1, for the moisture content of 1.76-6.56 (d.b. %).

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a qualidade fisiológica de embriões de babaçu (Orbignya phalerata Mart.) em função da dessecação. Os frutos foram mantidos em estufa de circulação forçada a 37±2ºC por 0, 3, 6, 9 e 12 dias. Após esses períodos, foi determinado o teor de água dos frutos e sementes, sendo também avaliado a percentagem de embriões zigóticos germinados in vitro, GRI (definir) e desenvolvimento das plântulas. A redução no teor de água ocorre mais rapidamente em frutos que em sementes. A diminuição no conteúdo de água da semente a partir de 12,59% (umidade inicial) para 4,56% não afeta a porcentagem de germinação in vitro dos embriões zigóticos, no entanto foi observado diminuição no vigor dos embriões à medida que decresce o teor de água da semente. Embriões com 4,56% de umidade desenvolveram as menores plântulas após 30, 60 e 90 dias de cultivo in vitro. As maiores plântulas foram obtidas de embriões com 10,42% de umidade, após 90 dias. Diante disso, fica evidente que os embriões de babaçu toleram a dessecação, mas que a altura das plântulas foi afetada negativamente pela redução do teor de água das sementes.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the physiological quality of babassu (Orbignya phalerata Mart.) embryos as a function of desiccation. The fruits were placed in a convection oven at 37±2ºC for 0, 3, 6, 9, or 12 days. After these periods, the moisture contents of the fruits and seeds were determined. A reduction in the water content occurred more rapidly in the fruits than in the seeds. The decrease in seed moisture content from 12.59% (on the basis of fresh weight) to 4.56% did not affect the percentage of germinated zygotic embryos; however, we did observe a decline in the vigor as the seed moisture content decreased. Embryos with a 4.56% moisture content developed into seedlings of shorter lengths after 30, 60, and 90 days of in vitro growth. The longest seedlings originated from embryos with a 10.42% moisture content after 90 days. Thus, it was evident that the babassu embryos were tolerant to desiccation, whereas the seedling length was negatively affected by a reduction in the seed moisture content. Therefore, babassu fruits may be dehydrated and stored without losing their viability, which thereby guarantees the conservation of their germplasm.

Objetivou-se com esse estudo elucidar os mecanismos de desidratação e hidratação de frutos e sementes na viabilidade de embriões de macaúba Acrocomia aculeata (Jacq.) Loddiges ex Mart. A desidratação foi realizada em estufa de circulação de ar, ajustada a 37 ± 2°C por 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 e 15 dias, após esses períodos, foi avaliada a viabilidade dos embriões pelo teste de tetrazólio. O efeito da hidratação na porcentagem e velocidade de germinação foi avaliado pela embebição das sementes em água destilada em germinador com temperatura a 30 ± 2°C por 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 e 10 dias. As sementes foram tratadas com fungicida e mantidas em germinador do tipo Mangelsdorf. A secagem promoveu perda pregressiva no conteúdo de água dos frutos e facilitou a extração das sementes. Quando os frutos foram secos por nove dias não há perda de vigor, no entanto, depois de 15 dias de desidratação, foi observado perda na viabilidade das sementes. Com a regressão linear simples é possível estimar o conteúdo de água nas sementes baseando-se no teor de água dos frutos. A embebição das sementes em água destilada favoreceu e aumentou o número de sementes mortas pela contaminação fúngica.

This study evaluated mechanisms of the dehydration and rehydration of fruits and seeds on the resulting embryo viability of the macaw palm, Acrocomia aculeata (Jacq.) Loddiges ex Mart. Dehydration was performed in a forced-air oven at 37 ± 2°C for 0, 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15 days, and after these periods, the embryo viability was evaluated by the tetrazolium test. The effect of hydration on the germination percentage and velocity index was evaluated by the imbibition of seeds with distilled water in a germinator at 30 ± 2°C for 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 days. The seeds were then treated with fungicide and maintained in a Mangelsdorf germinator at 30 ± 2°C. Drying caused a progressive water loss in the fruits and facilitated the extraction of the seeds. Fruits subjected to drying for up to nine days had no loss of vigor; however, after dehydration for 15 days, a loss in seed viability was observed. Simple linear regression estimated the seed water content based on the fruit water content. Seed imbibition in distilled water favored an increase in dead by fungally contaminated seeds.

Objetivou-se avaliar a qualidade fisiológica dos frutos de Crambe abissynica, submetidas à secagem em diversas condições de ar. Frutos de crambe foram colhidos manualmente com teor de água de 21,0 ± 1,3 (% b.u) e secas até o teor de 7,0 ± 1,4 (% b.u.). A secagem foi realizada com ar natural (temperatura média de 23ºC e umidade relativa média de 60,6%) e sete dias após a colheita em secador experimental nas temperaturas de 30, 40, 50, 60 e 70°C e umidades relativas de 37,4; 22,3; 14,0; 8,3 e 5,1% respectivamente. A qualidade dos frutos foi avaliada pela porcentagem de germinação, índice de velocidade de germinação (IVG), absorção de água e condutividade elétrica. Com o aumento da temperatura o tempo de secagem reduziu e a qualidade dos frutos foi influenciada negativamente. Para a temperatura de 30ºC o IVG e a porcentagem de germinação foram superiores às demais temperaturas avaliadas. O teor de água dos frutos de crambe depois da absorção de água foi mais elevado para as temperaturas de secagem de 23, 40 e 70ºC. A secagem em temperaturas elevadas não influenciou a condutividade elétrica.

This study was performed to evaluate the physiological quality of Crambe abyssinica Hochst fruits subjected to drying under different treatments with air. The crambe fruits, with moisture content of 21.0 ± 1.3 (% w.b.), were manually collected and dried until their moisture content reached 7.0 ± 1.4 (% w.b.). The crambe fruits were dried with natural air (23°C mean temperature and 60.6% average relative humidity) and seven days after harvest in an experimental dryer with forced ventilation at temperatures of 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70°C and relative humidities of 37.4, 22.3, 14.0, 8.3 and 5.1%, respectively. The evaluation was the percent germination, the germination speed index (GSI), the amount of water absorption and the electrical conductivity. The results of the study showed that increases in the drying temperature decreased the drying time and negatively affected the quality of the fruits. The study's findings for the GSI and for the percent germination showed that the drying temperature of 30°C yielded superior results. The moisture content of the crambe fruits after absorption was higher at the drying temperatures of 23, 40 and 70ºC. In contrast, the electrical conductivity measurement was unaffected by drying at high temperatures.
